vrse charity: the HOPE Program
Every year, vrse produces a calendar to raise funds and awareness for the University of Alberta's Human Organ Procurement and Exchange Program (HOPE). 100% of the proceeds are donated to the charity in loving memory of Jess' little brother Chris, a healthy 9 year old who contracted an unknown virus that stopped his liver from functioning properly. Within 10 days, Chris died - waiting for a liver transplant. We are proud to present awaken 2009 to you. To purchase, please visit the vrse store.
SIGN your donor card. TELL your family your wishes.
why become an organ & tissue donor?
When you consider organ and tissue donation, you are giving hope to the many thousands of Canadians who are waiting for a life saving or life enhancing transplant. Organ and tissue donors save or dramatically improve the lives of others.
It is important to discuss your wishes about donation with your family. This will help to ensure that your final requests are honored. By considering organ and tissue donation, you have the opportunity to share the gift of life and potentially save another person. The choice and decision is yours.
There is a critical shortage of organs for transplant including heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and small bowel. Tissues in need include corneas and eye tissue to restore sight, skin to heal a burn patient, bone and tendons to restore mobility and heart valves to give new life to both adults and children.
We encourage you to consider signing the donor card on the back of your Alberta Personal Health Card, and ask that you share your decision with your loved ones.
Please contact the Comprehensive Tissue Centre (CTC) a Human Organ Procurement and Exchange Program (HOPE) at Capital Health in Edmonton at 1-866-407-1970 if you wish to learn more about becoming an organ and tissue donor.
